What is myofascial release?
Myofascial release is a manipulative treatment that attempts to release tension in the fascia due to trauma, posture, or inflammation. Connective tissues called fascia surround the muscles, bones, nerves, and organs of the body. Points of restriction in the fascia can place a great deal of pressure on nerves and muscles causing chronic pain. Practitioners of myofascial release employ long stretching strokes meant to balance tissue and muscle mechanics and improve joint range of motion in order to relieve pain. What does a treatment look like?
Patients will first fill out some paperwork and then K'Lynn will take a brief history and discuss the goals of the massage. Some patients are seeking a relaxing massage while many are seeking a restorative massage which makes myofascial release a perfect option for them. Massages are generally 60 minutes long although longer or shorter times are available on request. |
Who and Why should I receive massage ?
Men, Women, young adults of all ages will benefit from massage therapy. From competitive athletes, weekend warrior athletes, factory workers, people who sit at a computer all day to the stay at home mom and retiree, all can benefit from the healing touch of a massage. Many feel that a massage is just for relaxation but myofascial release is much more. We all have had injuries that we were able to ignore or "it just went away." Well this is adaptation and the tissue still needs to be addressed to be returned to its correct motion and flexibility. Patients that have had surgeries and are experiencing issues with scar tissue, ie, knee surgery, have benefited greatly in our office with this technique.

How often should I receive a massage?
We get asked this all the time. Each person has a different need so the answer is different for everyone. Some of our patients see us once a month, some twice a month, some more, some less. We will discuss your need after your first few treatments. The more you get involved with your own health, the better your massage results will be. We encourage all of our patients to maintain healthy diets, drink plenty of water daily, daily stretches and exercise along with consistent massage and chiropractic care.
